Miles, a stray Great Pyrenees, had spent an entire year on the streets of rural California, evading capture and struggling to survive.

His story began when Megan Allen, the founder of Zeppelin and Friends Rescue, saw a Facebook post about this sweet dog.

Determined to save him, she drove to the area the very next morning.

Upon arriving, Megan found Miles, but winning his trust would prove difficult.

Despite being a large, calm dog, Miles was terrified of the leash and immediately ran away when Megan tried to capture him.

Undeterred, Megan spent hours searching the area but couldn’t bring him in.

It was heartbreaking, but she wasn’t ready to give up.

Within a week, Megan found a new ally in Danny Spanks of A SafeFurr Place Animal Rescue in Bakersfield.

With Danny's help, they devised a plan to finally bring Miles to safety.

Luring him into a dog park with hot dogs, Danny successfully closed the gate behind him, giving them their first real opportunity.

However, even with this success, Miles remained terrified, paralyzed by the leash.

The team had to carry him to safety, but finally, they got him into the car, away from the place he had called home for so long.

Transformation and a Fresh Start

Miles was taken to Mad Love Animal Rescue, where he began to heal physically and emotionally.

Under the care of his foster mom, Kerstin Hicks, Miles started to thrive.

He learned to walk on a leash, interact with other dogs, and even enjoyed snuggling on a bed.

The once fearful dog now displayed the joy and trust he had been denied for so long.

In just a short time, Miles, now known as Cosmo, blossomed into a happy, healthy dog ready for his forever home.

Within a few months, Cosmo found the perfect family to call his own.

His transformation was a testament to the dedication of those who rescued him and the love that helped him heal.

Cosmo’s story is one of hope and resilience, showing just how powerful the bond between rescuers and animals can be.

He’s now living a life filled with joy, safety, and love; finally free from the hardships of his past.
